Forty years in the electrical trade. Thirty of them inside Toronto Pearson International Airport, most recently as Manager of Aircraft Support Systems at the Greater Toronto Airports Authority. PowerSurge Electric & Consulting is the way to engage that experience directly — aviation electrical consulting for airport operators and engineering firms, and small residential electrical work for homeowners across the GTA.
Experience
Paul Schyvenaars began his electrical career in the mid-1980s, gaining hands-on experience across industrial, commercial, and residential installations and service work. Those early years provided a strong technical foundation and practical understanding of electrical systems in a wide range of environments.
In May 1998, Paul joined Toronto Pearson International Airport, where he built a career spanning more than 28 years of increasing responsibility and leadership.
Installed electrical systems for airport tenants, supported annual substation maintenance programs, prepared material take-offs, and developed project estimates and quotations.
Led a team of eleven licensed unionized tradespeople responsible for maintaining critical building infrastructure, including electrical distribution, HVAC, plumbing, and fire alarm systems.
Since 2004, Paul has led the maintenance and reliability of Toronto Pearson's aircraft support electrical infrastructure, overseeing six supervisors and more than sixty licensed unionized tradespeople.
His responsibilities included:
Over two decades in leadership, Paul helped grow the aircraft support electrical workforce from sixteen tradespeople in 2004 to forty by 2025 through a structured development program, including apprentice recruitment ensuring the long-term sustainability of the skilled workforce supporting airport operations.
Today, Paul brings this combination of technical expertise, leadership experience, asset management knowledge, and practical problem-solving to homeowners and businesses through PowerSurge Electric & Consulting, providing professional electrical services and consulting backed by four decades of industry experience.
